2020 Ian Daff Memorial Award

Harness Breeders Victoria believes it is important to recognise the tenured contributions to and service of the Victorian breeding industry, as well as the season’s achievements. Each year, the Ian Daff Memorial Award on the IRT Victorian Breeder Awards program serves this purpose and has seen many significant participants acknowledged over time - take a look at the Honour Roll here.

In many ways it’s quite surprising that the Galloway name has not yet appeared on the Ian Daff Memorial honour roll!

The Galloway family have been synonymous with harness racing for over 60 years. Alan Galloway Snr and Barbara Galloway, along with their son Alan, initially developed Alabar in the Adelaide Hills but after travelling and learning overseas, Alan took Alabar to the next level in Victoria and later NZ with guidance from his parents. Today it's one of the largest stud farms in the world. Over the years Alan has stood many of the leading stallions in Australia including Art Major, Fake Left, Armbro Operative, Safely Kept, Kentucky and Windshield Wiper. In addition, Alan Snr and later Alan Jnr have dedicated themselves to making harness racing better through service on boards and committees and a strong sponsorship program. Alan said he was very honoured to accept the trophy on behalf of the family and was pleased to have been recognised in this way by Harness Breeders Victoria.

The 2021 Allied Express Ian Daff Memorial race takes place next weekend on Saturday 24 April at Tabcorp Park Melton.
