Who Are We
Harness Breeders Victoria (HBV) is the representative body for the Standardbred breeding industry in the state, and is the legislated kindred body for consultation with Harness Racing Victoria. We do our best to ensure that the interests of Victorian broodmare owners and stud masters are best served and represented when decisions are being made at State and National level that impact on our participants.
Our main areas of operation are:
Representing the interests of the Victorian breeding industry at all levels, and advocating both proactively and in response to requests for input
Keeping members and the broader community informed about the breeding industry, through our website, social media channels, our column on The Barn, and the Australasian Standardbred Stallion Guide, and regular newsletters
Encouraging the maintenance of a female racing population
Recruiting new breeders and nurturing current breeders
Providing educational programs to support an optimum foal crop and equine welfare
Recognising excellence in Victorian breeding through an annual Awards Program
HBV is an incorporated association with an elected Executive, a full Committee and a membership base of over 480. You can view more about the Committee and HBV's governance here.
