Help us find our 2022 Star

Our annual search for a cover star for the Australasian Standardbred Stallion Guide is on again!

Gaining in popularity each and every season, we love to give a platform for breeders to share photos of their gorgeous stock through Search for a Star - follow the guidelines below to enter.

After the entry deadline, a panel of graphic designers are provided with all the entries as unidentified files, and from these entries, select six finalists. These are then made open to a public vote on Facebook across June to find the most popular image which will then be featured on the front of our 2022 Stallion Guide, seen by thousands and thousands of breeders and harness racing enthusiasts. All entries received will be featured in an annual album on our Facebook Page.

The competition is open to both professional and amateur photographers alike but all photos must comply with the following conditions:

  • Entries must be received to contact@vicharnessbreeders.org.au no later than 5pm on April 22, 2022

  • Photos must be a MINIMUM of 4MB in size - photos smaller than this are not always able to be enlarged for the cover of an A4 publication and maintain clarity. Note that smartphones usually do not save high-resolution images - there are various free and paid apps available to enhance the size and quality of your photos

  • All foals depicted must be from the 2021 crop

  • All foals MUST be Vicbred eligible - please check before submitting

  • Photos must contain a foal, and may contain the dam and/or other horses, but not other animals or people

  • Be mindful that the publication is portrait orientation - landscape photos may be difficult to appropriately crop (larger file sizes may help with this)

  • HBV reserves the right to use any photograph entered in Search For A Star in future HBV promotions, publications (credited where able)

  • You MUST have ownership or copyright of any photograph submitted - photographs with a watermark cannot be accepted

  • All entries must contain the photographer's name, email, phone and postal details PLUS the breeder's details if different, as well as the breeding of the foal (sire, dam, foaling date)
