A big year since Humbletonian 2020 maidens amaze

Changes to the racing calendar last year made the 2020 Humbletonian Day a bit later in the year and COVID meant it was quiet on the fence, but this time around our sponsored all-Vicbred, all-maiden race day is back bigger (and later) than ever!

Harness Breeders Victoria will provide a $250 cash bonus to breeders of all winners on Wednesday, December 9, while the Victorian Square Trotters Association, Maryborough Harness Racing Club and Harness Racing Victoria will also offer a range of bonuses and trophies in addition to the prizemoney and Vicbred bonuses already attached to the races. Some of those are based on membership or attendance, be sure to check the conditions for detail.

A look back at last year's big day shows it really does pay to be Vicbred!

Of the 90 non-winners in the 12 races last year, 68 have gone on to record wins and some have recorded quite a few.

Sharmey has posted seven wins since running third in his Vicbred 3YO pacing maiden at Maryborough last year.

A couple of standouts who didn’t quite break their maiden in 2020 but certainly gained from the experience were Yambukian and Otago Central.

Central Otago (right, Love You x Sumthingaboutmaori x Pine Chip, bred by Yabby Dam Farms) ran last in his 2YO Vicbred Trotting Maiden but has since gone on to secure more than $43,000 in stakes and claim the Group 1 Vicbred Platinum Home Grown 2YO Trotting Colts Final.

Yambukian (Bettor’s Delight x Coppagoodone x Christian Cullen, bred by Benstud Standardbreds) has lined up in the recent Breeders Crown series, where he ran second in his heat and then again in the $200,000 Group 1 Final.

Prizemoney earnt by all runners who started at Humbletonian 2020 has surpassed $2 million, with 210 wins recorded in total – this from a group of 102 horses who had never won a race leading up to that day!

Of course, it always pays to be Vicbred – aside from the $49,000 in additional bonuses claimed by the winners on Humbletonian Day 2020, runners who have won since then have pocketed $343,000 in additional earnings through their Vicbred First Win Bonuses.

Nominations for this meeting close on Thursday, December 2. For more about their facilities, visit Maryborough Harness Racing Club and for details about access under COVID safe plans, visit Harness Racing Victoria.

Follow our socials on the day as we put out live results and look for the full day album on our Facebook Page in the days afterward.
