From the President's Desk...
The persistent wet and cold weather has seen a delayed start to the breeding season with many mares due to foal early going over by up to a few weeks. As the weather turns we should see a rush of broodmares foaling down. We wish members all the best with their foals hoping for four straight legs and healthy foal and dam!
We welcome breeder Clyde Little to our committee as of our last meeting. Clyde is the breeder of the well-performed Tennerson as well as a number of other young horses. We still have one vacancy if members wish to get involved.
The Spring and Summer periods bring our best racing with the juvenile highlights being the Breeders Crown and Vicbred Super Series. Breeders should be aware that winning a 2YO or 3YO race in Victoria brings with it a Breeders Bonus of 10% of the advertised prize money for the Foal Nominator of a Vicbred eligible horse. These Bonuses provide vital cash flow for our members and provide extra incentive to make sure your foals are Vicbred eligible. We thank HRV for the continued funding of these Bonuses.

Could you perform foal CPR?
While HBV recommends using a dedicated agistment facility, if you plan on foaling down at home, now is the time to review your skills and understanding of the process and importantly, how and when to intervene. We've put together a range of articles, videos and other resources to support breeders HERE.

Important 2022 Stallion Guide Corrections
Please be advised that the hard copy of this year's Stallion Guide went to print with two primary errors:
MOUNTAIN VIEW STUD
The trotting stallion Peak is listed incorrectly on page 152 in the Guide as being a frozen semen stallion - Peak is offered by Mountain View Stud as a FRESH SEMEN stallion based in Victoria - view the correct details HERE.
COBBITTY EQUINE FARMS
These misprints (in the hard copy only) relate specifically to eligibility for the Cobbitty Equine Classic race series on a limited number of non-Cobbitty stallion pedigree pages. Note that ONLY eight, Cobbitty-based sires will have progeny eligible for this series - Bling It On, Capt Midnight, For A Reason, Huntsville, Jilliby Kung Fu, King of Swing, McWicked and Ultimate Machete. You can view more about the Classic on pages 20-21 of the Guide or at Cobbitty Equine.
