From the President's Desk...
I would like to wish our Members all the best for 2023! I trust that all breeders have had success in getting healthy foals on the ground and then getting their mares back in foal, but if not there is still time to breed into January. The changes to the racing season are now well embedded, giving later foals the opportunity to mature and be ready when the big races are on. We've highlighted in a number of social media posts the success that many later foals have had on the race track, including King of Swing & Lochinvar Art.
With the new year our eyes turn to the yearling sales, and the for the first time in some a long time we will have to wait until early April here in Victoria for the sales to occur. The Nutrien catalogue is out both online and in hard copy and I encourage everyone to have a detailed review of the top quality lots on offer. HBV will be working with Nutrien and HRV in the lead up to the sale at Oaklands Junction.

The NYE Vicbred Super Series meeting is a great example of the incredible payouts available to breeders making sure their stock is Vicbred. Foal nominators of the winners collected $138,000 in total through the 10% Vicbred Breeder Bonuses. That's in addition to the $34,000 they collect in Vicbred Foal Nominator prizemoney percentages. Six of the breeders who collected a $10,000 or $13,000 Breeder Bonus aren't the owner of the horse - when you breed Vicbred, the money just keeps rolling in...

Harness Breeders Victoria Committee Meetings
The next meeting of the HBV committee is scheduled for Tuesday 31 January 2023 and a summary of proceedings will be posted on our website shortly after. We invite members and interested parties to submit papers or correspondence for consideration by the Committee by post or email. To be tabled at the next meeting, they must be received no later than Friday 20 January 2023. Please refer to previously summaries on our website to ensure the issue has not previously been addressed by the Committee.
