Committee Notes
Your HBV Committee have recently been focused on several matters on behalf of breeders and been in ongoing conversation with HRV.
In the 2025 season, there are only three Group 1 races for mares across Australia (based on the $150,000 threshold). None of these were conducted in Victoria. Our suggestion to drop the threshold for these races to $125,000 has been well received by HRV who will raise the matter to HRA. Racing opportunities for mares more generally require addressing, given the need to leverage the reducing racing pool and that around half of every foal crop is female. We have subsequently submitted a proposal based on making it easier and more lucrative to race mares against their own sex.
A request for further detail around the delivery of the HRV HERO program has also been made, and we continue to investigate the new processes for microchipping foals in Victoria, as introduced in July, and to this end, would appreciate any feedback breeders might have - positive or negative - about how this program is working this season.
Our best wishes to those breeders represented in the rich Vicbred Super Series, and still awaiting the 2025 foal drop.

Larrakeyah Lady's Impact
You could describe harness racing as Peter Gleeson’s passion, but by his own admission, it’s his obsession. Having become hooked on the sport as a teenager, Gleeson owns an ever-growing band of pacers, which are constantly among Australia’s best.

Traceability Rule Updates
A recent change has been made to the options available when selecting the option of “Industry Retirement Program” from the drop down menu when retiring your Standardbred in HarnessWeb.
