Our quest for guide glamour is on!

Get those cameras clicking, Vicbred breeders - we’re on a quest to find a fantastic foal to grace the cover of the 2024 Australasian Standardbred Stallion Guide.

After the entry deadline, a panel of graphic designers are provided with all the entries as unidentified files, and from these , select six finalists. These six images will be presented to a VERY special and impartial judge who will choose their favourite foal photo and this will be used as the cover of all hard copy Stallion Guides in 2024 - stay tuned for details! All entrants will also be showcased in a dedicated album on our Facebook Page, and the final six will feature in the Guide itself.

The competition is open to both professional and amateur photographers, and members and non-members alike but all photos must comply with the following conditions:

  • Entries must be received to contact@hbv.org.au no later than 5pm on April 26, 2023

  • Photos must be a MINIMUM of 4MB in size - photos smaller than this are not always able to be enlarged for the cover of an A4 publication and maintain clarity. Note that smartphones usually do not save high-resolution images - there are various free and paid apps available that will enhance the size and quality of your photos

  • All foals depicted must be from the 2023 crop

  • One image per foal

  • All foals MUST be Vicbred eligible - please check before submitting

  • Photos must contain a foal, and may contain the dam and/or other horses, but not other animals or people

  • Be mindful that the publication is portrait orientation - landscape photos may be difficult to appropriately crop (larger file sizes may help with this)

  • HBV reserves the right to use any photograph entered in Foal Quest 2024 in future HBV promotions, publications (credited where able)

  • You MUST hold copyright of any photograph submitted or permission from the copyright holder to submit - photographs with a watermark cannot be accepted

  • All entries must contain the photographer's name, email, phone and postal details PLUS the breeder's details if different, as well as the breeding of the foal (sire, dam, sex, foaling date)
